Dogeared @ Heal the Bay!
Danielle and Tania from Dogeared were lucky gals who attended the Annual Bring Back the Beach Gala held at the Jonathan Beach Club. The Gala is a fundraising event that helps SoCal keep its beaches clean and family friendly. The organizers raised funds by hosting a silent and live auction with products and gifts donated by high end vendors and retailers in the area.
The blue carpet celeb studded event included a live performance by the famed Ziggy Marley on the beach front property. MC’d by Amy Smart, the event began at sunset and went late into the evening with entertainment, good food and drink! Who wouldn’t want to hang out on the beach with great tunes and good people?!
The event was able to raise over $1 million for programs that assist in cleaning the beached in the SoCal area. A total success!

Ingredients:
4-5 cups washed, dried, and finely chopped curly kale
1/4 cup finely chopped basil
1 tbsp hemp oil
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tsp agave nectar or maple syrup
Sea salt to taste
1/2 large, ripe Haas avocado, chopped
1 cup fresh sliced strawberries
Instructions:
Place the kale and basil into a large mixing bowl. Add the oil, lime juice, agave, salt to taste, and the avocado. Use your hands to “massage” everything together. If it needs more creaminess, add additional avocado.
Toss in the strawberries. Serve. ENJOY!

So we have decided to believe that chocolate is a healthy treat. In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, a holiday most likely create by a chocoholic, we are celebrating with one of our favorite recipes!

Ingredients-
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (about 12 ounces) semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
Directions-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars; beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to low; add the salt, vanilla, and eggs. Beat until well mixed, about 1 minute. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Drop heaping tablespoon-size balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week.

One of our favorite Dogeared Moms! Rebecca Broncato was asked to share an insight into her Mom World with us!
Daily responsibilities include waking up and make breakfast for my 2 year old, Amelie and my husband, Raphael. I make Raphael his lunch for the day and give him a kiss off to work. I get Amelie ready for the day as we head off to either dance class, music class or story hour. We spend our day learning about why there are two meanings to the word meat/meet or why a patch of grass is a perfect dance floor to perform her “new moves! She is the best companion and teaches me more than any other human being I know. I lay her down for her nap and I quickly begin to choreograph preparing for my job as a tap dance teacher in Malibu. As soon as the dance steps wiggle to the tips of my toes I make dinner for my family and off to teach my tap company. When I return home to my wonderful husband and sweet girl, I kiss my beautiful life sweet dreams!
As a full time mom and dance teacher I usually wear a comfortable off the shoulder tee, pencil jeans or leggings, my spiked combat boots or tap shoes and I always have on my favorite Dogeared necklace that never comes off.
I love everything about my job! I love being a teacher to my precious child and to my fantastic girls at the dance studio. It is a complete honor!
My favorite songs on my playlist right now are ‘Locked out of Heaven’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Troublemaker’ by Olly Murs and Minnie’s Bowtique because I get to see Amelie dance to it as soon as it begins!
I have celebrated a couple of birthdays and showers these last few months with close friends and handing someone a Dogeared treasure is always the perfect gift! I have also seen quite a few people recently wearing Dogeared and we strike up conversation, which always brings a smile to my face. Not to mention the girls at the dance studio LOVE Dogeared!
